JANUARY 22.

Started McCourt after horses. P & W (Self) went to work compelled to give in. We brought in all the stray horses; as the river has been falling rapidly since yesterday brought them home; & put them 5 miles down home ranges. Cattle all mustered at home. After a good shower, fine, cool, cloudy weather, of which we have had much of late. Most of the men attacked with dysentry lately; gave them doses of laudunum; and put them right.

Hands as usual.

JANUARY 23.

I had a great row with Green, not a man but a thing that has always annoyed me; he said threw the sheep on to my hands and said he would have nothing more to do with them I told him I would take them & he had nothing more to do with them or the party; but could board with the men as usual.

Schum (?) could not work at all; as his foot was bad. McC. keeping keeping horses from going off home run. Self not fit for work but spent some time in learning how far Green might have spread his venom, through the camp; much to my satisfaction found they were not such fools to be led or misled by him -
