Aesop's Fables

Latin: Fabulae. Collection of fables credited to Aesop (620—560 BC), a slave and story-teller that lived in Ancient Greece. Aesop's Fables become a blanket term for collections of brief fables, usually involving personified animals. The fables remain a popular choice for moral education of children today.

Authors edit

  • Aesop (620—560 BCE), Greek slave and story-teller credited with most of the Fables
  • Phaedrus (20 BCE – 50s), Roman fabulist and compiler of the first Latin edition of the Fables
  • Babrius (1st century CE), Greek writer and compiler of an influential edition of the Fables, from which are derived most modern collections

Collections edit

Translations of the collected Fables are listed at Fables (Aesop)
