Can you fix this?

I simply cut and pasted the text to reverse them... Dovi 08:11, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Reverted edit

I reverted this edit, not sure how chapter 9 of an unreatled work could be the previous chapter to chapter 1. Jeepday (talk) 00:42, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Admin?

Hello, since I incorrectly reverted one of your edits, I did a little research on your edit history and I was wondering if you have considered becoming an Admin? I see you are in and out of WS, with a long edit history and a highly specialized interest and knowledge. I also looked at your SUL which is interesting. I see you turned down a request for admin at Wikipedia over a year ago [1], and have not seen it brought up since. WS is differetnt the WP, and I am sure you realize the differences between them. Would you consider being nominated for admin here? Jeepday (talk) 01:11, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

It looks like you are here to stay; and thank goodness for that! ;-)
I have asked many Wikipedians if they would come and take the reigns of the Open Mishnah Project, but they all declined.
Our rule of thumb here is that anyone who knows what they are doing is able to be trusted with the tools. You do not need to use the tools often. I think you will find it useful to be an admin here, especially since Dovi is now focusing on Hebrew Wikisource.
If you dont use the admin tools at all, or if you disappear on us, the tools will be removed after a year of inactivity but they will be given back to you when you return. John Vandenberg (chat) 09:07, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
I have just returned from a brief wiki-break. Since, as you point out, the Open Mishnah Project needs an admin, I would be willing to take on those responsibilities at this time. I've already made some contributions to the project pages and templates at any rate, and I would certainly use the admin privileges responsibly. I suppose the next thing is for you to nominate me? --Eliyak T·C 01:32, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Also, I've activated the email notification for my talk page so I won't miss any more important messages! --Eliyak T·C 01:34, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
I have nominated you at Wikisource:Administrators#Eliyak. Thank you. John Vandenberg (chat) 04:28, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. --Eliyak T·C 19:41, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

You now have adminrights. Good luck! --BirgitteSB 20:02, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Mishnah Page

Hi,

Sorry about that. I thought I'd managed to get every template that used a version of header/header2, but it looks like I missed some. It should be fixed now--let me know if it doesn't work, but hopefully that should be it. Jude (talk) 05:52, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Ack! Trust me not to check the actual directions on the template. This should be fixed now; I'll go and actually test it instead of assuming. :) Jude (talk) 22:37, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

waflers

Agh! Then I hope I'm right in what I'm doing! Sorry for sticking my nose in, but I couldn't resist after taking a peak. I'm actually looking for a favourite lemon pudding recipe. Getting the text up is probably the most important thing, the formatting is merely nice. I stopped validating the pages because I had some ideas for internal links that are either neat or insane :) Where she uses terms like casserole, italicised in the text, we could link that to the glossary. The index could get the same treatment, but the subpage structure needs sorting first. I thought I would get your view on these enhancements, then I could add the links as I validate. This is a seminal work, glad to help you with it. I can't help with the Mishnah project, unfortunately, but I'm very enthusiastic about this one. Sorry about this ramble — Cygnis insignis (talk) 23:55, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

The Jewish Manual/front matter — The Jewish Manual
                                                  |
                                              The Jewish Manual/Observations
                                              The Jewish Manual/chapter 1
                                              ...
                                              The Jewish Manual/chapter 10
                                              The Jewish Manual/The Toilette

I try to put the contents at the top of the parent page, for navigation, so I subpage the 'front matter' to a link at "previous= " in the header. The glossary would appear below the contents as it is not listed in them. I would lump the Toilette chapters together, but link the contents to page targets; The Jewish Manual/Toilette#215 will open at ch. VI "Effects of Diet on the Complexion" (p. 215). I put <span id="casserole"> to show how The Jewish Manual#casserole targets that glossary entry. Cygnis insignis (talk) 03:16, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

You may be right, I don't know the first thing about it. I use wiki markup or a template, which I find intuitive and neat. If I need something else, I ask Hesperian. Cygnis insignis (talk) 03:58, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Pages 5 and 6 in Ch.I don't have rule breaks. A trivial thing, so I would be inclined to insert them between the trnsclsns in main space. Or ignore it. Cygnis insignis (talk) 08:53, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
I was convinced to drop roman numerals for titles, you might want to consider that. Cygnis insignis (talk) 08:58, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Excuse me butting in, a point on anchors ... don't ignore the shortcut version of anchor used as chorissa. Also do look at the shortcuts that you can do with page. -- billinghurst (talk) 08:02, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Nice one! I'll run through it, if you like, I remember seeing two spellings of chorissa ;-) The subpages could be marked %100 at the same time, but as with the following suggestion, you may want the satisfaction of ticking that checkbox. You could semi-protect now, although you should refer to C.4 and consider putting it up here. Cygnis insignis (talk) 09:44, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi

Hi I wanted to introduce myself to you as i see that you are involved in the open mishna project. I was living in israel for 4 years and now im back in south africa. I would like to contribute to the project.

Need a Hebrew aide

At User talk:Israel.M I have someone who has basic English, which is far better than my non-existent Hebrew. He is trying to create an Index: page at heWS, and I cannot even tell which namespace that is in Hebrew. I am really happy to help the person with instructions, or point and load, however, I am like a mime artist performing in the dark!  :-( Thanks if you can be of assistance, or can find someone who can. billinghurst (talk) 09:33, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello back

Hi, Thanks for the welcome note on my page! I'm a complete newbie here - what does an admin do on wikisource? And seeing as you offered, yes, I'd love you to be my admin... whatever that means... :) Shaul

Arukh Hashulchan

Hi, and thanks very much for your recent attention to Aruch Hashulchan. I've long admired your continuing work on the Mishnah...

I enjoyed your translation. You can see a stub sample of mine here.

In general, I am personally in favor of people starting such work even in forms that still require a huge amount of improvement. Because the wiki process allows such improvement over time, exactly as you yourself did here. And also because by letting people start at any level, it gives them a chance to learn and improve over time (as has indeed begun to happen with the people contributing Aruch Hashulchan). Nevertheless, maybe it would be a good idea for us to create templates to tag different stages: Perhaps a "First Attempt" translation, a "Draft Translation" and finally a "Reviewed Translation". In Hebrew Wikisource it is much easier for us to do this because we have installed Article validation, but it can certainly be done here as well through templates.

Speaking of Hebrew Wikisource, please do realize that you don't have to link to any other website to provide a source for the Hebrew text, since it is available as reviewed, validated text at he.wikisource as well.

By the way, have you seen the contents I tried to put together for the Rambam?

Good luck, Dovi (talk) 19:10, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Quality markers

The possible lack in the percentage markers (25%, 50%, etc.) is that they really seem to deal with quantity, not quality: How much of the text exists? Or how much of it has been proofread (for English-language texts)?

It would seem that we need to mark quality and quantity separately: Even if a chapter has been fully translated, that may still be a very rough draft. The "Flagged revisions" extensions has a built-in rating system for three layers: Completeness (i.e. quantity), Accuracy (in Wikisource this might mean proofreading or validating a translation), and aesthetics (page formatting, illustrations, etc.). It would seem to me that we could create a fairly simple template tailored to translations that would facilitate ratings for at least the first two elements. What do you think? Dovi (talk) 07:28, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks so much!

It would be really great if you did some editing. Just letting you know that when I did the Chanukah stuff, I had just started. I am sure that there are some mistakes. Thanks for your suggestions and have a great Purim! (Goldmanboys) 23:25, 9 February 2010 UTC

Template:Translation

A belated thanks for creating the sample template. It's a good start, and I'll try to add some more to it in the near future. Let's continue discussion at its talk page. Dovi (talk) 06:05, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

OK, I'm thinking of something along these lines. I've only typed text; feel free to change as needed, even radically. I'm not so great at formatting boxes, etc. Dovi (talk) 07:26, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

I rewrote the template (it wasn't used up to now). Do you have any suggestion? --D.H (talk) 11:44, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Aruch Hashulchan translations

Thank you for posting that comment on my talk page. What corrections/editions did you add? Thanks! Goldmanboys (talk) 04:16, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Probably very presumptive

Hi. I am prepared to be slapped, however, it seems very weird to have the template God when it is coded God and also have it poked under the formatting templates. I deleted it then went back and looked at its history. :-/ If it is going to be used a lot, I am happy to build a nice shiny God button for your toolbar with the coding which we can activate in your monobook.js file (or whichever you are using. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:32, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Aruch Hashulhan

Hope you are enjoying your Pesach. Just wanted to know if you are interested in translating Arukh Hashulhan a little yourself, or looking at mmy work. (Goldmanboys)

unused templates

The following templates are completely unused. Can I delete them?

Thank you!

Thank you so very much for formatting Page:Book of the Riviera.djvu/182. It was extremely nice of you to step in and do that as it seems a tough and time-consuming job even for someone who is capable of it, like you. Thank you! Regards, Mattisse (talk) 13:40, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Fraction

Hi, thanks for formatting Page:Michelson1881.djvu/1. However, from a scientific point of view, I think the use of LaTex is better than using Template:Over. Most scientists use LaTex, and thus they can simply copy the source-code from the pages. --D.H (talk) 10:16, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

It's no problem to make the fractions smaller. For example by using "tfrac"   instead of "frac"  . One can also use "\scriptstyle"   for all types of formulas. --D.H (talk) 10:25, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Index page moves

You need to align the File:name.djvu and and the Index:name.djvu (and therefore the Page:name.djvu) to get them all aligned. Otherwise it all has some sort of sql hissy-fit. So if you do need to do it, then you need to get one of us who is a Commons admin along to move the file there at about the same time. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:22, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

I know that I am quite willing to move files at Commons. It is one of the reasons that I sought adminship there to enable WS to have a little control over its files in play. With regard to the hissy-fit, as soon as the second page is aligned (whether it be here or there) then all is well again, and the hissyfit is resolved. — billinghurst sDrewth 04:16, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

TOCIndex for A Study of Mexico

Hi Eliyak and thanks for your kind offer. Perhaps you can point me to an existing index generated by your template, so that I can study this to fully understand.Ineuw 22:09, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Eliyak,

that is very considerate of you. I will leave the decision up to you. I still feel like I’m learning the ropes. If it would help, count me in…JamAKiska (talk) 19:20, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

FYI

Hi, hope this finds you & yours well,

I was just wondering is all these chapter-specific redirects are still needed in light of your recent (& correct) disambig of the work? -- George Orwell III (talk) 21:24, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Page numbering

Hello Eliyak. I noticed you added the page footer to page ii of Meat for Thrifty Meals, but not to page 1. Was this deliberate, or do you prefer one or the other? —Pathoschild 23:46:10, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
