Login problem

Hello, hope you can help. I set up Author:Daniel Desmond Sheehan way back. I changed my login in the Wikipedia and forgot to follow suit here. Forgotten my old login here (Wikisource), and have since changed my email address. My administrator at the time was User:AllanHainey but he is presently inactive. Just to add that I have registered a Wikimedia Unified login and global account for User:Osioni, which includes Wikisource; however it cannot be completed because it calls for the old Wikisource password, which as I explained is lost. Without the password or email there's no way to recover your account or contribs. All you can do is file a request at WS:AN with proof that you own the global account (i.e. a link to the request from another project while logged in) to get the abandoned account moved out of the way. -Steve Sanbeg 21:26, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Final push for the Proofread of the Month...

This month's Proofread of the Month, Index:The Pilgrim Cookbook.djvu, is still a ways away from being fully validated. However, we're within striking distance.

If all ten members proofread just two (but preferably three) pages a day, we'll be able to finish the book before the end of the month.

There's no rule stating admins can't close discussions they've been involved in. Early Settlers was also the oldest of the pages on WS:FTC that was eligible for promotion to featured status, so I chose to promote that one as a "thank you" to all the work contributors like BirgitteSB put into making it a good text. We're just a few days away from October and no other admin had moved on the issue, so I picked the one I thought most deserved it.—Zhaladshar ^(Talk) 16:56, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

A basic tenet of admins and crats maintaining neutrality is not closing things they voted on. you should know that. By closing it you doubled up your vote. Two other items had just as many votes (more without your doubled vote) and were also unique, one very historical with lots of signatures too and another a set of 23 documents. What about a thank you to those who worked on those candidate docs and didn't have the benefit of your double vote? I can no longer support a project in which the crat sees nothing wrong with an obvious conflict of interest such as this. Bye. — Rlevse • Talk • 17:34, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

As I also said, Early Settlers (of the three most eligible) was also in its candidacy the longest. So, I also chose it for that reason. And this is not Wikipedia where users with restricted access rights are required not to close discussions in which they've participated (the reason administrators do the closing in the first place is because it requires them to edit templates that are protected--not because of some special status that we get by being an admin). We act in good faith and do what we think is the right thing, but it's a layer of bureaucratic nonsense to insist on complete abstention (such as closing a discussion) merely because I cast a vote--especially on such a transparent project as this one is. Anyone who disagrees with me can, of course, reverse my action and promote a different text so as to avoid my "conflicting interest."—Zhaladshar ^(Talk) 21:33, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Ajax sysop (new version of obsolete script)

Hello Zhaladshar. You were using "Getmoredata.js", which adds a list of subpages (and a block log for user pages) on the deletion form. That script has been replaced by the better-written and more extensible Ajax sysop. I switched you to the new script (see a screenshot comparing outputs); if you prefer to use the old script, I'll add the source code directly to your script file since it will no longer be maintained.

Availability

I wanted to give you a heads up about my availability in the short term. I am getting ready to move next week. After I get settled, my grandma is coming and stay with me. Unfortunately her kidney is failing. So I am going to take my vacation time to spend with her. I might have some gaps of time without internet service, or being very busy offline. Or I might be sitting at home, off of work, with her sleeping alot and end up being online more than normal. I am not sure. It looks like we have two pages with the same song, so we need to merge them onto one page and redirect the other. They date back a long time, and you created one of them. Wikisource:Song of the day isnt about quality, so only improve it as much as you have time for. There are some instructions on the Wikisource:Song of the day about how to add metadata needed, but you can ping me and I'll do that part if need be. If you have it all figured out, feel free to slot it into the next available day in November.

What options do you use on DJVU?

G'day Zhaladshar. I am taking JPG files through Any2DjVu, and then trying to extract the text through djvutxt.exe, however, it is not coming along nicely in the latter part ... too many weird characters are coming through, which makes me think that I am not using the right options. Unfortunately, aside from telling Any2Djvu to include an OCR layer, I don't do anything else. Are you getting any output or is it all garbled (maybe include a page that djvutext.exe has extracted)? I'll try in the next day or so to work with Any2Djvu and see what might work. However, I'm guessing the problem might be with Any2Djvu's OCR software than with anything you're doing or with DjvuLibre (I've found that DjvuLibre is very straightforward for what you're trying to do).—Zhaladshar ^(Talk) 14:03, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Wikisource:CommonsTicker

Quick question for you--I've noticed that CommonsTicker has basically shut down, and I'd like to know if you have the time/desire to get it running again. It's obviously pretty important to get keep Wikisource's images from being updated by well-meaning Commons users, and CommonsTicker is the best way to do that. If you'd like me to work on getting it set up again I can, but you're the guy who got it going in the first place and I'm not sure how consistently I'll be on Wikisource in the future. Let me know. OCR

Unfortunately, my bot doesn't OCR. All it can do is extract a text layer from a djvu file. If the file you linked has a text layer, any bot running the pywikipedia software should be able to dump all the text into their appropriate pages. If not, I unfortunately don't know of any software that can OCR Chinese characters (I believe that tesseract might be able to if it is trained to do so).—Zhaladshar ^(Talk) 13:52, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
