Zephyrus → Zyephyrus edit

Hi Zhaladshar,

I have been renamed from Zephyrus to Zyephyrus on en.wp, on meta, on Commons (here is a diff) ; I'd like to be Zyephyrus on all projects for SUL purpose and disambiguation from other Zephyruses. Thank you very much if you can rename me here too.- --Zephyrus 23:02, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Alright, Zyephyrus, the rename's been completed.  :)—Zhaladshar (Talk) 00:06, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks :) - --Zyephyrus 07:00, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Login problem edit

Hello, hope you can help. I set up Author:Daniel Desmond Sheehan way back. I changed my login in the Wikipedia and forgot to follow suit here. Forgotten my old login here (Wikisource), and have since changed my email address. My administrator at the time was User:AllanHainey but he is presently inactive. How can I get back into the fold or who can I contact ?? You may reply on my user-discussion page. Many thanks and Greetings User:Osioni presently 145.254.107.39 18:36, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just to add that I have registered a Wikimedia Unified login and global account for User:Osioni, which includes Wikisource; however it cannot be completed because it calls for the old Wikisource password, which as I explained is lost. How can my old and new Wikisource accounts be merged ? Osioni signing off as 145.254.107.141 21:09, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Without the password or email there's no way to recover your account or contribs. All you can do is file a request at WS:AN with proof that you own the global account (i.e. a link to the request from another project while logged in) to get the abandoned account moved out of the way. -Steve Sanbeg 21:26, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Final push for the Proofread of the Month... edit

This month's Proofread of the Month, Index:The Pilgrim Cookbook.djvu, is still a ways away from being fully validated. However, we're within striking distance.

If all ten members proofread just two (but preferably three) pages a day, we'll be able to finish the book before the end of the month.

We can do it. :) EVula // talk // 01:20, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tomorrow I'll sit down and proofread at least 6 (to make up for the fact that I probably won't get to doing any tonight) and will try to do 3 until the end of the month. Magically we seem to validate a TON of pages within the last few days of the month, so I'm optimistic it will get done.  :) —Zhaladshar (Talk) 01:30, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, this is my first PotM, so I'm less familiar with our magical ways. ;) EVula // talk // 01:35, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Aha! See, the Wikisource magic pulled through and The Pilgrim's Cookbook is now fully validated.  :) —Zhaladshar (Talk) 23:05, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

October FT edit

You selected as FT for October an item on which you voted? That's a Conflict of Interest. RlevseTalk 16:37, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

There's no rule stating admins can't close discussions they've been involved in. Early Settlers was also the oldest of the pages on WS:FTC that was eligible for promotion to featured status, so I chose to promote that one as a "thank you" to all the work contributors like BirgitteSB put into making it a good text. We're just a few days away from October and no other admin had moved on the issue, so I picked the one I thought most deserved it.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 16:56, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
A basic tenet of admins and crats maintaining neutrality is not closing things they voted on. you should know that. By closing it you doubled up your vote. Two other items had just as many votes (more without your doubled vote) and were also unique, one very historical with lots of signatures too and another a set of 23 documents. What about a thank you to those who worked on those candidate docs and didn't have the benefit of your double vote? I can no longer support a project in which the crat sees nothing wrong with an obvious conflict of interest such as this. Bye. RlevseTalk 17:34, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
As I also said, Early Settlers (of the three most eligible) was also in its candidacy the longest. So, I also chose it for that reason. And this is not Wikipedia where users with restricted access rights are required not to close discussions in which they've participated (the reason administrators do the closing in the first place is because it requires them to edit templates that are protected--not because of some special status that we get by being an admin). We act in good faith and do what we think is the right thing, but it's a layer of bureaucratic nonsense to insist on complete abstention (such as closing a discussion) merely because I cast a vote--especially on such a transparent project as this one is. Anyone who disagrees with me can, of course, reverse my action and promote a different text so as to avoid my "conflicting interest."—Zhaladshar (Talk) 21:33, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
It is not bureaucratic nonsense so goodbye forever. I want nothing to do with this project where the crats have no concept of this. RlevseTalk 22:11, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
You guys not agree. R is used to en wiki and you wikisource, okay you have different ideas on this. But Z, you said to R "nonsense" and that you should not have said. JoJo (talk) 13:06, 4 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ajax sysop (new version of obsolete script) edit

Hello Zhaladshar. You were using "Getmoredata.js", which adds a list of subpages (and a block log for user pages) on the deletion form. That script has been replaced by the better-written and more extensible Ajax sysop. I switched you to the new script (see a screenshot comparing outputs); if you prefer to use the old script, I'll add the source code directly to your script file since it will no longer be maintained.

You'll need to refresh your browser (CTRL+R in Firefox) to see the new version. If you find any bugs or have suggestions, please let me know. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 00:00:03, 07 October 2008 (UTC)

This is great. Thanks!—Zhaladshar (Talk) 17:40, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hello again. In case you missed my response to your question on the Scriptorium:

Ajax patrolling is also a feature of Ajax sysop, which you're using. You can disable that feature by adding the following to User:Zhaladshar/monobook.js, just above importScriptURI:

var ajax_sysop_config = {
	disable_patrol:true
};
Pathoschild 16:42:08, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I had missed that.  :) —Zhaladshar (Talk) 16:47, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Availability edit

I wanted to give you a heads up about my availability in the short term. I am getting ready to move next week. After I get settled, my grandma is coming and stay with me. Unfortunately her kidney is failing. So I am going to take my vacation time to spend with her. I might have some gaps of time without internet service, or being very busy offline. Or I might be sitting at home, off of work, with her sleeping alot and end up being online more than normal. I am not sure. If you don't mind, could you watch my talk page in case any rename requests turn up there and I am not around.--BirgitteSB 03:17, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure. I hope everything goes well.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 16:47, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Just wanted to let you know I am back. We buried my Grandma this week. She was very ill for some time so it a relief that she is at peace now.--BirgitteSB 19:25, 9 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm very sorry to hear that.  :( But I'm glad that you're back.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 17:44, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sumer is icumen in edit

The Cuckoo Song and Sumer is icumen in appear to be in need of a merge, and an upgrade, so they can be a Wikisource:Song of the day (I have it slotted in for later this month). Could you help with that? John Vandenberg (chat) 03:50, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not quite sure what needs to be done. Are you talking about the songs being listed side by side? And I imagine the lines numbers need to be pared down to maybe every 5 lines (if kept at all).—Zhaladshar (Talk) 13:38, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
It looks like we have two pages with the same song, so we need to merge them onto one page and redirect the other. They date back a long time, and you created one of them. Wikisource:Song of the day isnt about quality, so only improve it as much as you have time for. There are some instructions on the Wikisource:Song of the day about how to add metadata needed, but you can ping me and I'll do that part if need be. If you have it all figured out, feel free to slot it into the next available day in November.
Cheers, John Vandenberg (chat) 21:34, 24 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've slotted it in for the 29th. John Vandenberg (chat) 03:01, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I know that I won't be able to really work on it by then, with the Thanksgiving break coming up. :( Hopefully someone else can help with those songs.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 03:44, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I touched up everything that I could think of.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 14:07, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Validate/proof-read edit

Any specific problematic ones? An automated robo-rant is useless. Recent pages that have been tagged as validated are based on what was previously validated in the same set of pagescans, blank pages or images (again based on what was previously validated).

ii) Images (in Iowa History) that need crop/background transparency adjust
iii) {{page contains math}} as you noted :)

What options do you use on DJVU? edit

G'day Zhaladshar. I am taking JPG files through Any2DjVu, and then trying to extract the text through djvutxt.exe, however, it is not coming along nicely in the latter part ... too many weird characters are coming through, which makes me think that I am not using the right options. Do you run any special options / tweaks to get your text to come through neatly? Thx. billinghurst (talk) 06:20, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately, aside from telling Any2Djvu to include an OCR layer, I don't do anything else. Are you getting any output or is it all garbled (maybe include a page that djvutext.exe has extracted)? I'll try in the next day or so to work with Any2Djvu and see what might work. However, I'm guessing the problem might be with Any2Djvu's OCR software than with anything you're doing or with DjvuLibre (I've found that DjvuLibre is very straightforward for what you're trying to do).—Zhaladshar (Talk) 14:03, 28 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay. I think that I will go and play with some decent images initially to see if I can better isolate the problem to the images or the OCR before we send it off to boffins. -- billinghurst (talk) 11:58, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Author John Morley edit

I see that you have some unlinked pages written by John Morley. I have created Author:John Morley and if you don't have the time, I can paste them into the author page. If the later, their context would be useful. -- billinghurst (talk) 03:23, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I added two works by Morley. I can't find any others, so I guess those were the only ones of his that I added.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 15:45, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wikisource:CommonsTicker edit

Quick question for you--I've noticed that CommonsTicker has basically shut down, and I'd like to know if you have the time/desire to get it running again. It's obviously pretty important to get keep Wikisource's images from being updated by well-meaning Commons users, and CommonsTicker is the best way to do that. If you'd like me to work on getting it set up again I can, but you're the guy who got it going in the first place and I'm not sure how consistently I'll be on Wikisource in the future. Let me know. Thanks! --Spangineerwp (háblame) 02:26, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea why it stopped in the first place. I looked at the CommonsTicker pages for other English projects and they all stop at August 26. I wonder if the bot was taken down.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 15:42, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Looks like you're right... seems to have stopped working everywhere, and I haven't found any discussion about why. Definitely makes it harder to keep our images from being updated. --Spangineerwp (háblame) 19:16, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

WikiMoney edit

Hey, following your (and everybody's) contributions to the discussion on the Scriptorium about buying books online specifically for Wikisource, I've created Wikisource:Purchases and request you all check it out; add books you see for sale anywhere online (not just eBay) that you'd like to see some collaborative interest on, and sign up to help on existing listings. Sherurcij Collaboration of the Week: Author:Bahá'u'lláh. 15:06, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'll give it a look and see if I can't find some other books to add to the list. :) —Zhaladshar (Talk) 15:08, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

OCR edit

Can your bot OCR Chinese? If it can ,please OCR this.Thanks.--Wmrwiki (talk) 06:40, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, my bot doesn't OCR. All it can do is extract a text layer from a djvu file. If the file you linked has a text layer, any bot running the pywikipedia software should be able to dump all the text into their appropriate pages. If not, I unfortunately don't know of any software that can OCR Chinese characters (I believe that tesseract might be able to if it is trained to do so).—Zhaladshar (Talk) 13:52, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
