SIÉGE DE CORINTHE, LE. Lyric tragedy in 3 acts; words by Soumet and Balocchi, music by Rossini. Produced at the Académie Oct. 9, 1826. It was an adaptation and extension of 'Maometto Secondo,' produced in 1820. The Andante of the overture, entitled 'Marche lugubre grecque,' is framed on a motif of 8 bars, taken note for note from Marcello's 21st Psalm, but with a treatment by the side-drum (Caisse roulante) and other instruments of which Marcello can never have dreamt.
