The PSM article is attributed to "F. Peppercorne, L.R.C.P." (The letters refer to Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians, a British learned society) and mentions being published in London Medical Gazette on March 1844). The London Medical Gazette is on the Internet Archive and the referenced letter is on page 773 of Volume 33. This is attributed to Francis Peppercorne of 3, Delahay St., Great George St., Westminster. (NB: Delahay Street was later demolished to make way for the Treasury building on Whitehall.)

That letter uses MRCSE after his name, which stands for Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. While searching on that basis, I also found an 1868 Calendar of the Royal College of Surgeons of England that lists a Francis Peppercorne as a member (at the top of page 205). The listing actually reads "1835. Peppercorne, Francis, Outlands" (their italics). These search terms lead to The Outlands Heritage Group's website and James Watts Peppercorne (see also Wikipedia:Oatlands Palace). According to the Heritage Group's website, James' younger brother was called Francis and he was christened on 12 May 1811 in St Mary at Lambeth, while the family lived at Walcot Place, Upper Kennington Green. From Genes Reunited, in 1881 this Francis Peppercorne was living in Strand, St Martin In The Fields (link) and may have died in 1895 (link).

This might be the same Francis Peppercorne who wrote Remarks Upon Dyspepsy or Faulty-digestion (1851).

The only part I am sure about is the first name, Francis, but the other details, especially birth and death years of 1811-1895 may be accurate as well. - AdamBMorgan (talk) 03:16, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
