J. G—ns identified as J. Gans by Ted R. Ellis III in "Literary Magnet, The", Alvin Sullivan (ed.) British Literary Magazines: The Romantic Age, 1789–1836 (1983) p. 262, which says: "J. Gans (“J. GYodinT 20:47, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

Violet Annie Alice Stockley's German Literature as Known in England, 1750–1830 (1929) covers Gans' translation of Engel's Lorenz Stark, and says that Gans was "apparently a German living in England" and later that "Judging by the English of [their] remarks and also of the translation, Gans must have been for many years in England."
