The "Hymn to Liberty" is a poem written by Dionýsios Solomós in 1823 that consists of 158 stanzas, set to music by Nikolaos Mantzaros. In 1865, the first two stanzas officially became the national anthem of Greece and later also that of the Republic of Cyprus.Warning: template has been deprecated.

Σε γνωρίζω από την κόψη
Του σπαθιού την τρομερή,

Που με βιά μετράει τη γη.

Se gnorízo apó tin kópsi,
Tu spathiú tin tromerí,

Pu me viá metrái tin yi.
Ap' ta kókkala vgalméni,
Ton Ellínon ta ierá,
Ke san próta andrioméni,
Hére, o hére, Eleftheriá!

English Translation

I know you by the dreadful
edge of the sword,
I know you by the gaze
that measures the land with force.
Born from the sacred
bones of the Greeks
