Date markers

I was able to add date markers with {{dropinitial|<br /> July 24.  |1em}} giving

July 24.   Nam at tortor in tellus interdum sagittis.
Phasellus viverra nulla ut metus varius laoreet. Vivamus quis mi. Donec venenatis vulputate lorem. Phasellus a est.

i like that markup - there is also {{PT Shoulder Heading|Sample shoulder heading}}

Original has a smaller font for date, I propose {{dropinitial|<br /> July 24.  |.9em}} --M-le-mot-dit (talk) 07:02, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Which is it to be? I prefer the smaller text, but it'd be good to standardize one way or t'other, so we don't have to go back over it (although I guess someone will have to do that anyway). I suggest:

Images

Plates

There is a problem with some of the plates, e.g. Page:Journal of a Voyage to Greenland, in the Year 1821.djvu/129 - they appear to be intended to fold out to 3 times the page width, but the Google books edition has just scanned them folded up. archive.org has a second copy https://archive.org/details/journalofvoyaget00manbrich - but this doesn't have the plates at all!--Keith Edkins (talk) 07:44, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

It's not quite the same. The map in this book is in English and the one you linked to isn't. I'll wait to see if I can get the book, but if everyone else wants to use it for now I'm fine with that. The Haz _talk 15:43, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Another update: I finally got the book (there was a small delay) and it is the correct edition. The plates aren't in the same location. In this book (original binding) they are all placed together, except for the map, so the plates tend to tell more of a story. I will carefully scan them and clean the scans soon. Mostly good and some not so good news (though none bad): All plates have been uploaded and categorized at Commons. Each plate was also cropped and a second cropped version was uploaded. This was to retain the information stored in the captions as well as the scans. Nonetheless, some plates have "folds" (more correctly, imprints) from the map fold actually pushing through the pages after almost 200 years. Also, the map has its own folds that can't be avoided and a tear as well. I did not fix any of these, so if anyone wants to, please go for it. In addition, there were stains on almost all plates which simply getting rid of color information seemed to delete. I don't think many are noticeable. There were inconsistencies between some captions that I captured and put into the captions on the pages here. Anyway, please feel free to clean the uploads as needed, though I think most should be fine now. The Haz _talk 18:42, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

'kant' ?

There is this word 'kant' used on page 66 in the phrase "the whole was turned round by the kant". Any idea what it means? It is the only instance of the word in the whole book. Possibly the author is using a foreign word. wikt:kant tells me it means "edge; or border" in many other languages (including Danish, a language spoken in Greenland). Or is this a typo? non-uniformity in RunningHeader across pages

While some pages use {{rh||{{sc|voyage to greenland.}}|157}}, others use {{rh|88|VOYAGE TO GREENLAND.|}}. --Siddhant (talk) 15:12, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

I think it's actually 'smaller all-caps' rather than small-caps! By which I mean, the leading capitals ('V' and 'G') are the same size as the other letters. So: {{rh|88|{{smaller|VOYAGE TO GREENLAND}}}}. It looks more or less the same, until viewed on a device (e.g. quite a few ereaders, unfortunately) that doesn't support small-caps, when it's rendered in all-lowercase and so looks a bit odd. — Sam Wilson ( Talk • Contribs ) … 00:10, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Since it's not transcluded to the main namespace, I personally don't think it's something to worry about. However, if you do decide to dix it, the title is Voyage to Greenland not VOYAGE TO GREENLAND, which is the printer's typographic choice, not a contextual one.
