Missing pages edit

The Djvu files needs to be corrected:

  • A frontispiece (portrait of Douglass) should be inserted after DjVu page 6, and DjVu page 5 removed to correct for the shift in page numbers.
  • Printed pages 130 & 131 are missing, and should be inserted after DjVu page 135.
  • Printed pages 194 & 195 are duplicated, and one set of these (DjVu pages 198 & 199) should be removed from the file.

The second and third corrections above will shift all page numbers from 130 to 195, requiring a correction of the Index and move of a single image page 165 to match the change.

This damaged copy is the only one housed at both the Internet Archive and Hathi Trust; neither archive has another copy. Google books has no copy of the 1892 revised edition. We may need to seek out a library with a copy to acquire scans of the missing pages. --EncycloPetey (talk) 14:41, 9 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Images edit

All images should be uploaded to Commons at Category:Life and Times of Frederick Douglass (1892). Ideally, photographic images should be saved as .jpg, and line etchings as .png files. --EncycloPetey (talk) 15:08, 9 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Chapter numbers edit

The 1892 edition of Douglass' biography is divided into three sections: "Life as a Slave", "Second Part", "Third Part". In each section, the chapter numbers begin at "I.", and the second section includes an additional unnumbered chapter titled "Appendix" which is actually another chapter.

There is also a set of LibriVox audio recordings for this edition, and these are numbered 0 to 54 (with "0" being the Introduction).

Rather than created a complicated nesting set of pseudo-directories, the file locations for each chapter of this volume will follow the same numbering as used in the LibriVox recordings, as follows:

  • 0 = Introduction
  • 1–21 = "Life as a Slave", Ch. I.–XXI.
  • 22–41 = "Second Part", Ch. I.–XIX. & Appendix
  • 42–54 = "Third Part", Ch. I.–XIII.

However, the original Part / Section numbering will be displayed in Main namespace copies, using the section= parameter. --EncycloPetey (talk) 06:19, 9 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
