Style guide for all 8 volumes

edit
  • Use curly quotes: ‘, ’, “ ” throughout.
  • Retain spacing before apostrophes where required by the scansion.
See for example Canto I., Stanza XX.
Notice the spacing in line 1, where the particle ’s is preceded by a space to make it a separate syllable from stake. However, the scansion makes this a single syllable, so the space should be collapsed.
Contrast this with the spacing in lines 2 and 3, where there is no such space in the scan, because the portion after the apostrophe is not to be read as a separate syllable.
The spacing is thus inconsistent, and must be judged according to the rhythm of the line to determine whether a space should be retained or collapsed.
  • There are both footnotes and endnotes in each Canton.
The end notes will appear on the same page as the Canton they refer to, since they appear on pages following the canton they refer to, and before the next canton..
    Use <ref></ref> for the footnotes.
Use {{ref}} to mark the endnotes; they will then link to the endnotes at the bottom of the page.
