This routing would begin at the west edge of Kalamazoo at the junction of present U.S. 131 and former U. S. 12, thence east, north and northwest through Kalamazoo to a junction with present U. S. 131 northwest of the city. Also, a short section at the south edge of Grand Rapids beginning at the junction of present U. S. 131 and M-50, thence east with M-50 to present U. S. 131 B. R. A short section of U. S. 131 B. R. north of Grand Rapids overlapped by present U. S. 131 from I-196 to former U. S. 131 is to be deleted from the records.

This routing would follow State Route 6 westerly from Forsyth via Melstone, Roundup, Ryegate, Harlowton and White Sulpher Springs to Townsend, thence northwesterly with U. S. 10N via Helena to Garrison, thence westerly with U. S. 10 via Drummond to Missoula.
Action on this application deferred pending further investigation wherein the U. S. Route Numbering Committee authorized Mr. D. C. Greer (Chairman) and Mr. A. B. Johnson (Executive Secretary) to secure complete information on the ultimate extension of U. S. Route 12 now being proposed through the various States, during the AASHO meeting in Billings, Montana, later this month and carry the matter again on the agenda for the. 45th Annual Meeting of AASHO in Boston, Massachusetts in October 1959.

This routing would follow present U. S. Route 12 from Forsyth southwesterly via Hysham, Billings, Laurel and Red Lodge into Wyoming for a few miles then back into Montana terminating at the northeast corner of the Yellowstone National Park at Cooke City.
