בזבז (Pilp. of בז, v. בזא III, a. b. h. בזא in H. Dict.) 1) to divide, distribute. Tosef. Meg. IV (III), 21 אדם אין לעצמו בידיו מבזבז (v. ed. Zuck. Var.) one who distributes (honors) must take none to himself. B. Bath. 142a a con- vert died וכ׳ ובזבזו and Israelites divided his property among themselves (he having left no legitimate heirs). -- 2) to give away liberally, to give charity on a large scale. Keth. 50a וכ׳ יבזבז אל המבזבז he who wants to be liberal, must not give away more than &c. Ib. ובזבזו כתבו קטנים 'minors' wrote and gave away' (ref. tto the order of three ttraditions concerning minors, transfer of property and charity, related ib. 49b sq.). B. בזבז ch. same; 1) to shatter. Esth. R. to I, 10; v. בוז ch. -- 2) to give away, to sguander. Targ. Koh. III, 22 למא וכ׳ מב׳ אנא why should Iwaste money in doing charity? -- Keth. 67b וכ׳ בזבזיה he gave away (on charity) half of &c. Y. Sot. III, 19a, a. e. וכ׳ מבזבזה הוות was squander- ing the estate. --3) (v. בו) to treat lightly. Y. Ter. XI, 48b; Y. Sabb. II, 4d top (read;) [בביתיה] שמשא הדין מן וכולא בהקדישא מבזבזא and all this discussion arose from that servant [in R. Ammi's housel dealing lightly with sacred property.

בזי, בזה (b. h.; בז to tread, v. בוז) to tread upon, whence to despise, spurn, degrade. Ab. d'R. Nath. ch. XXIX וכ׳ חבירו את הבוזה he who spurns his neighbor (rebuking him) for a sacred cause. Ib. בעצמן בוזין הן they make themselves contemptible (neglecting their appear- ance). Part. pass. בזוי, f. בזויה. Y. Sot. V, end, 20d שהיתה ב׳ נבואתו his prophetic gift was degraded(by him). Ruth.
