גיס II, גייס m. (גוס II) intimate, familiar. Keth. 85b ביה ׳ הא ביה דג׳ . . ואי (Ar. ביה גס . . . דגייס . . .) but if it is one who is familiar with him (so as to use his name without a title), then, we may say, he spoke of him in a familiar way. - Fem. גייסא. גיסטרא, גסטרא, גצטרא f. (=גרזרא, a re- duplic. of גזר; for assimilation of sibilants cmp. Ncld. Mand. Gr. p. 4c sq.) something defective, mutilated; 1) a large vessel which turned out defective or unwieldy, by having its handles broken off or being cracked, and is therefore used as a receptacle for refuse, as a pickling pot, as a receiver of drippings from a leaking vessel &c. Kel. II, 6 וכ׳ שנמצאת גס׳ (Ar. גצרא) a defective vessel found in the furnace (in which vessels are put for baking); Tosef. ib. B. Kam. III, 10 גסטרה היתה ואם but if the jug turned out a gistra, contrad. to נפחתה. Ib. וכ׳ אזניה שנסדקין כל גסטרא היא זו אי (Kel. IV, 3 וכ׳ שניטלו כל גיס׳ . . . .) when is a vessel called gisiraf When its handles are split (broken of) &c.
