אדם (b. h.; דם, v. דמם) [to be viscous, thick, dark] to be red, grow red. Pi. אדם to redden, make red. Y. Sabb. VII, 10c top אודם המאדם he who produces a red spot (congestion of blood, on a Sabbath). Hif. האדים 1) (b. h.) to be, grow red. Num. R. s. 9 (p. 231b ed. Amst.) מאדמת (היתה) if she was red-faced. Hull. 53b; a. fr. -- 2) to cause to blush, put to shame (usu. הלבין). Num. אדמה f. (b. h., prob. fr. דמם, cmp. foreg.; thick and moist) [earth], clay. Gen. R. s. 14 the potter takes sand (עפר) which is male (masc. gender) and clay (אדמה) which is female (fem. gender). -- Sabb. VIII, 5 וכ׳ כחותם א׳ as much clay as is required for a seal on bag-knots. *אדקולאון, ארקולאון Cant. B. to I, 11 בן לא׳ הדימה (Var. כן לאר׳) a gloss inserted in the text, and which read הדימם כן אלא דוקא לאו 'not to be taken literally' (that the Divine Word kissed every Israelite &c.), 'but he made them so imagine'.

(ed. עדודה, v. עדד; Ms. ארורה, corr. acc.) let him bring the stripped (the remnants of the torn animal, skin &c.) before court for assessment of damages.
