זוג, Pi. זיווג, זווג 1) to join, couple, match; to adjust. Tosef. Kil. V, 11 הכלאים את המזויג he who harnesses together two heterogeneous animals; B Mets. 90b המז׳ בכל׳. Y. Gitt. III, 44d bot. שזיווג עצמך הגע but supposed that one matched it, i. e. found a letter of divorce just containing the names of the persons under consideration (though not written for that special transaction). Ib. ז׳ שלא כמי ז׳ אפי׳ לזווג מצוי שאינו כיון since it is so rare to find such a matching combination, even if one did, we consider it as if he had not done it, i. e. such rare chances are not taken into consideration. Snh. 12a (in a secret letter) וכ׳ בא ז׳ a couple (of scholars or messengers of Jewish authorities) came from Rakkath (Tiberias), and the eagle (Rome) caught them; a. fr. -- ז׳ בן partner, egual, match, counterpart. Gitt. 90b וכ׳ זוגו בן זה אין this (second husband) is not the equal of the first husband (is morally inferior). Gen.
