טגרוס, טגרס m. (tigrs, v. Sm. Ant. s. v.) tiger. Hull. 59b וכ׳ אריה ט׳ the tiger is the lion of BeIIai (the mountains of interior Asia), i. e. what the lion is in other regions.

טהור m., טהורה f. (b. h.; next w.) 1) clean, pure; not suyect to levitical uncleanness. B. Mets. 86a בט׳ נשמתך. .. ט׳ שגופך(Ms. בטהרה) thy body iis pure, and thy soul expired with (the word) 'pure; Snh. 68a. -- Kidd. 70b ט׳ ט׳ טמא טמא וסימניך and the sign (by which to re- member which of the two families is of unblemished descent) is, that with the name of an unclean animal (raven) is unclean, that with the name of a clean animal (dove) is clean; B. Bath. 91a. Kel. III, 7 ט׳ ובחרסית and. the person that touches the clay is clean (not affected by levitical uncleanness). Ib. IV, 1 ט׳ is not subject to levitical uncleanness; a. v. fr. -ט׳־ lדג, עוף; טהורה בהמה a. fish, a bird, a domestic animal permitted to eat. Hull. XII, 2. Ib. טהר, טהר (b. h.; cmp. צהר, זהר) [to be bright, to glitter,] 1) to be clean, pure, esp. to be levitically clean; to be unsusceptible of levitical uncleanness. Neg. X, 8 אחת שעה שט׳ which has been declared clean once. Mikv. lII, 2 שט׳ שיודע עד until it is ascertained that it has be- come clean. Ib. III, 2 וכ׳ מן העליונים ויטהרו so that the waters comming from above become cleansed from the impurity of the lower waters. Neg. VII, 4 ממנו ויטהר and is declared clean from it (the last scall); a. fr. -- 2) to be cleared, removed. Ber. 2b, v. next w. Pi. טיהר 1) to purify, make (evitically) clean; to ab- solve from sin. Yoma VIII, 9 וכ׳ מטהר מי who is it that absolves you? Ib. (ref. to Jer. טהר, טהר ch. same, 1) to be clean (usually דכי). Ber. 2b גברא וט׳, v. infra. -- 2) to be cleared away, be gone. Ib. 2a, sq. (ref. to Lev. XXII, 7 וטהר השמש ובא) ממאי גברא ט׳ . . . דלמא יומא ט׳ וטהר והאי . . . דהאי how do you know that this uba hash-shemesh means his sunset (the finished sunset of the seventh day, v. Ms. M. in Rabb. D. S. a. l.), and v'taher means, the day is gone; may be uba &c. means the approach of his evening (beginning sunset. Tosaf. a. l.; Rashi; the arrival of his (eighth) morning), and v'ttaher (referring to the man) means, the man becomes clean (by means of his sacrifice, Rashi). -- 3) (denom. of טיהרא) to be noon-time. טהר o טהר m. (b. h.; preced. wds.) 1) the pure, real surface (of gold). Yoma V, 6 מזבח של טהרו על (or טהרו) immediately on the top of the golden altar (free from coals or ashes, v. גילויא). Men. 97a של טהרו על שולחן (Ms. M. השל׳ על) immediately on the golden table. -- 2) (cmp. חזה) the centre of the front. Yoma 59a (one opinion explain. מזבח של טהרו, v. supra) פלגיה דמזבח the centre of the altar front, as people say, טהר דיומא פלגא והוי טיהרא 'the noon- light shines' meaning by tihara the middle of the day; ib. 15a; Zeb. 38b.

טהרה o טהרה f. (b. h. ט׳; preced.wds.) 1) clear- ness of the sky after the rainy season. Ber. 59a הרואה בטהרתה דקיע (or בטה׳) he who sees the sky in its re- stored brightness (Ms. F. בטיהרו, v. טיהר). Ib. נראית בכהרתה רקיע (Ms. M. בטהרה שמים נראו; Yalk. Is. 335 בטהרו שמים נראה, corr. acc.). -- 2) pureness, condition of levitical cleanness; purification. Sabb. 152b כמו לו תנה בט׳ אתה אף בט׳ הוא מה לך שנתנה Ms. M. (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) give her (the soul) to Him as He has given her to thee, as He (has given her) in pureness, so give thou &c. Snh. 68a, v. טהור. -- Ber. 16a (ref. to Num. XXIV, 6) וכ׳ לט׳ מטומאה. . . נחלים מה as the rivers raise man from a condition of uncleanness to one of cleanness, so do the tents (schools) &c. Ab.
