כובד m. (b. h. כבד; כבד) 1) weight, heaviness, pressure. Snh. 63b כובדו אלא כבודו א״ת Ms. M., v. כבד II. Yoma 41b כ׳ בעי it requires weight (must be heavy so as to sink into the fire). Ib. כ׳ בהן שיהא כדי (they are tied together) in order that they may be heavy. Y. Hag. II, 77d צריך כובדו את לככוש (in putting his hands on the sacrifice) he must press his weight on it; (Bab. ib. 16b בכל סמיכה כחו). Naz. 5a כ׳ the feeling of heaviness (of the hair). --- ראש כ׳ bending down the head; humble, solemn disposition, opp. ראש קלות. Ber. *וביתא f. (כבב, cmp. כוב) a little globe. R. Hash. 24a וכ׳ דעיבא כ׳ ed. (Ms. M. 1כוכביתא, Ms. M. 2 a. Ar. כוכיתא) they saw merely a globe-shaped cloudlet (which, they thought, was the moon).
