ערי, ערה I (b. h.; cmp. ארה) to uncover. Gen. R. s. 83, end וכ׳ לערות עתיד שהוא 'Rashi he will uncover treasures &c., v. ערם I. -- Denom. ערוה, עריה.
ערי, ערה II (b. h.; cmp. עור I) to stir up. Hif. הערה 1) to stimulate, esp. to excite the sexual organ by contact (as the first stage of sexual connection), v. העראה. Ker. II, 4 כגומר המערה את בהן עשה העריות כל in all illlicit connections the ttext makes him who passes through the first stage as punishable as him that finishes. Y. Keth. III, 27d וכ׳ עשרה בה הערו if ten persons came in carnal contact with her, and one of them consummated. Sot. 42b (play on מערות, ISam. XVII, 23) באמו הערו שהכל all the world had taken liberties with his mother; a. fr. -- 2) to intermix. Y.
