וכ׳ לפעמיך and what was the beauty of thy footsteps?'
That they locked the door for all troubles (no troubles
arose in the homes of the pilgrims during their absence)..

have not gone up on festive pilgrimages; Yalk. Is. 302;

פעפועא II f. (פעפע II) cover, darkness. Targ. Job XI, 17 (Ms. פיגפועא; h. text תעפה).

VII, 9d sq. גושים המפעפע he that crushes clods. -- 2) to spread; to piierce, penetrate. Y. Orl. I, 61a אותו מפעפעין השרשים the roots pierce it (the pot). B. פער (b. h.) 1) to open wide. Pesik. R. s. 4, end פערה וכ׳ עצמה החרובית a carob tree opened itself and swal- lowed him. Midr. Till. to Ps. CXIX, 131 לתורתך פי פערתי I open my mouth for thy Law; למלקוש . . . שפוערים כשם as people open their mouth for the late rain (to inhale it); a. e. -- 2) to uncover (one's self), esp. to commit a nuisance before the idol Peor. Snh. VII, 6 לבעל עצמו הפוער וכ׳ פעור he who uncovers himself before Baal Peor (is guilty, for) this is the mode of worshipping him. Yalk. Hos. 526 לו עצמך שתפעור אלא . . כלום they ask of thee only that thou uncover thyself before him. Snh. 64a פ׳ בפניו he eased himself before him; a. fr. Pi. פיער same.
