צורך, צרךm. (b. h.; צרך) need, necessity. M. Kat. II, 4 המועד לצ׳ if required for use during the festival; לצ׳ המוכר if the seller is in need of money. Pes. 5b we do not say, לצ׳ שלא . . לצ׳ . . . והותרה הואיל since lighting a fire is permitted (on the Holy Day) for the need of the day, it mny also be permitted where it is not needed for the day. Y. Naz. III, beg. 54c יצאת לצ׳ הבערה the pro- hibition to start a fire on the Sabbath (Ex. XXXV, 3) is specified for a purpose (for interpretation). Sabb. 131b גבוה צ׳ needed for the altar (v. גבוה).
