Wil- liam Archer, of Woolmers, Longford, had by JIartha Kcnsey, his wife, a fifth son, Daniel, II. D. of the "H.E.I.CS., a most talented surgeon, who d. at Khadakoor, India, Sth Sej)- tember, 1831. There is a monument to his memory erected at that )ilacc, and his elder brother William, was of Brickcndon, Sann- dridge, Muudeu, and Palmersfon, Tasmania. Bi.AXi.A-VD (p. 287). — In a pamphlet en- titled .i Jiiufiial of a Tom' of Dinroverif across the Bliie Mounfaiiis, iV..S'. /('., in the i/ear lSl,3. published in London, 1823, and reprinted in January, 1870, there is a copy of a letter from Mr. K. T. Blaxland's great grand-iuicle Ciregory Blaxlaud, Ow discoverer of the pass over the Blue Mountains (where now runs the zig-zag railway), dated London, lOth February, 1823, to the writer's luu-le, John Oxley I'arker, of Chelmsford, co. Essex, whose father was also nanu'tl John OxUiy I'arker. The aforesaid Gregory lilaxlami was /;. at Fordwich, near Canterbury, co. Kent, in 1779 (not 1771), and with his three brothers was educated at Kirig's College, Cauterbiry. His famous exjiedition started on Tuestlay, llth May, 1813, and returned ou Sunday, (itii June, following. The members comprising it, viz., Gregory Blaxlaud, William Charles W'entworth, and Lieutenant; William Lawsou, of the Royal A'eterau Company, were each rewarded with a grant of 1,000 acres of land. Gregory Blaxland's father John Blaxhind was a justice of the peace for F<^rdwich and Slurry, and lay rector of Newington luwt Sittingbourne, all co. Kent. Gregory's eldest brother, the Hon. John Blaxlaud, embarked for Syduey, 17th Jidy, 1806, with a large couvov, and arrived at Port Jackson, 3rd April," 1807. His brother Samuel Blax- laud was a rich merchant at Antwerp. Ho was taken prisoner by Napoleon and his proijcrly confiscated, and after having been in captivity for seven years eventually .-ue- ceeded in making his escape back to ICnglaud.
