He was, on the accession of Geobgk I, appointed chancellor of the exchequer, and was elevated to the peerage as Baron Onslow, of Otislow, with remainder in default of male isfue, to his uncle, Penzil Onslow, of Pyrford. and his itsue ; and afterwards to the heirs male of his deceased father. His lordship m. Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Henry TuiSE, Knt., Lord Mayor of London, and dying December, 1717, was s. by his son, Thomas, second baron, m. Eliza- beth, only daughter and heir of Mr. IvNiiiUT, of Jamaica, and niece and heir of Colonel Charles Knight, of the same island, with whom he had a considerable for- tune.
