There seems to be much truth in the accusations against SaIi.kara by Vijfiana Bhiku and others that he was a hidden Buddhist himself. I am led to think that SaIi.kara's philosophy is largely a compound of Vijfianavada and Siinyavada Buddhism with the Upaniad notion of the permanence of self superadded.
