HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY. 25 ROBINSON'S GRAMMAR OF HISTORY, pp. 242, ap- peared in 1832, under the patronage of the Committee of Public Instruction, translated by a literary club of 12 natives ; it gave in the form of short paragraphs, to be committed to memory, notices of the chief ancient and modern kingdoms. In 1839 Govind Sen wrote an ESSAY ON THE HISTORY OF INDIA, pp. 32. In 1840 Govind Sen published a HISTORY OF BENGAL, pp. 337, 2 Rs., a translation of Marshman's, gives from the Moslem invasion of 1203 down to 1835. The Bengali was too literal, and stiff. In 1842 we had the Life of Bhavani, editor of the Chandrika and the great leader of the Pro Sati party, a curious piece of biography. 1 10.
