necessary not only at Portsmouth as aforesaid but also go with the said Machine to make Observations at Sea and at Land during the whole Voyage out and home and moreover for a greater satisfaction of your Board and of the Public, proper Witnesses should be present at each Observation and attest the same.
That should your Honourable Board not have caused proper astronomical Observations to have been made to ascertain the difference of Longitude between Portsmouth and the Place in Jamaica to which Island your Memorialist apprehends your Board have Ordered the Time Piece or Clock and Watch to be send, your Memorialist humbly begs leave to represent that those Observations should be made as soon as possible by a proper person furnished with proper Instruments at Jamaica and that likewise a proper Person provided with proper Instruments be appointed to make corresponding Observations at Portsmouth from whence the said Time Piece or Clock and Watch depart. Your Memorialist moreover humbly begs leave to lay before your honourable Board that the above mentioned Observations should be made before proper Witnesses in order to attest the same both for your satisfaction for that of the Public.
