ſacred ſtream, is doubtful. From the Acinans to the Iſis 90 ſtadia. From the Iſis to the Mogrus 90 ſtadia. This river is noticed by Pliny under the name of Nogrus. From the Mogrus to the[1] Phaſis 90 ſtadia. This river preſerves in ſome degree its ancient name, being ſtill called the Faſz, or Rion. Its mouth is placed by Ptolemy in 45° N. Lat. and 72° 30' E. Long. According to Arrowſmith's Chart it lies in nearly 42° of N. L. and 59° 6′ 50″ E. Long. from the Canaries. The map of the country between the Caſpian and the Black ſea makes it to be 42° 25′ N. L. and 59° 2′ E. from the Canaries. Ptolemy then makes it, according to the laſt computation, no lets than 13° 28′ too far to the Eaſtward, which is nearly 685 Engliſh miles, a vaſt difference, which muſt effectually confound all calculation.
The mouth of the Phaſis is, according to Ptolemy, 3136 of an hour to the Eaſt of Alexandria, which is equal to 35 minutes of time, or 8° 45′ of longitude, which in latitude 42° is equal to nearly 452 Engliſh miles. This calculation, although erroneous, is leſs ſo than the former.

- ↑ Pliny ſays it is 1000 miles from Chaleedon to the Phaſis. Arrian makes it to be 8385 ſtadia, or 1048 Greek miles. D' Anville makes it about 13 degrees of Long. and ⅓ or about 688 Engliſh miles. Arrowſmith's Chart makes it conſiderably leſs, and not more than 630 Engliſh miles.
