Served in Persia 1857 as a Volunteer on t':e staff, and was at the taking of Mohumra, and was with the 78th High- landers in the advance on and capture of Ahwas. Was Paid Attache at Athens 18589, at Frankfort 185961, and Attache to the Earl of Claren- don's Special Mission to Berlin 1861 ; promoted to 2nd Secretary in Diplo- matic service 1862; was Secretary to the Embassy at Frankfort 1862 5, at Madrid (May to June), and at Vienna (June to October) 1865; appointed Major Midlothian County Militia 1868, and Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal of Scotland 1874: married (1865) Lady Victoria Alexandrina Montagu-Douglas-Scott, daughter of the 5th Duke of Buccleuch, K.G., and has issue, living, Sons, William Walter Schomberg, Earl of Ancrum, b. 1867.
