Born Feb. 2nd, 1798 ; succeeded his brother, in 1847 ; entered the Army as Ensign 1814, be- came Capt. 1823, Lieut. -Col. 1832, Col. 1846, Major-Gen. 1854, Lieut.-Gen, 1861, and Gen. 1869 ; was Col. of the 77th Foot 1861 75, when he was transferred to the Scots Fusilier Guards. Served in Safety in God alone. the campaign of ^ and was prese ut at Quatre-Bras and at Waterloo. Commanded a Division in the Crimean war, with the rank of Lieut. -Gen., and was present at the siege and fall of Sebastopol ; has the Crimean medal and clasp, the Sardinian medal, and the Turkish war medal ; is a Commander of the Legion of Honour, a Knight of the Order of the Medjidie, and a G.C.B. Married (1826) Magdalen, eldest daughter of Lieut.-Col. Thomas Huxley, and has issue, living^
