  • -The Barony of Calder was acquired by his ancestor, Sir James Sandilands, 134S, as

a dowry with Lady Eleanora de Bruys, only daughter of Archibald Douglas of Douglas, and sister of William, 1st Earl of Douglas, the representation of whom is now vested in the house of Saudilands; and the Barony of Calder has been held by that family in a direct male line since that period. t Obtained precedence as younger children of a Baron by royal licence, June 7 1870.
