He was b. 1/56, and succeeded his uncle as Earl of Abercorn, Oct. 9, 1789 ; in the following year was created Marqaess Of Abercorn: m. 1st, June 20, 1/79, Catherine, daughter of Sir Joseph Copley, Bart, of Sprotboro', (she d. 1791), and by her had issue, James (Viscount Hamilton), father of the present peer; Claud, who d. in 1808, and three daughters; 2ndly, 1792, his cousin, Cecil, daughter of the Hon. and Rev. George Hamilton, Canon of Windsor and Rector of Taplow, (this marriage was dissolved, 1799), and by her had a daughter, Cecil Frances, (who m. 1815, the 3rd Earl of Wicklow, K.P.) ; 3rdly, 1800, Lady Anne Jane Gore, daughter of the 2nd Earl of Arran, K.P. and d.
