James Royds, of Woodlands, Hartford, Cheshire), da. of the late Major Colin Campbell : Eleanor Sarah. The name of this ancient family was spelt Le Chylde, Infans, Le Puer, and L'Enfant. In 1222 Robert I'Enfant was Provost of Shrewsbury In 1308 a John le Chylde was a witness to the deed con- cerning the Abbey of Haughmond, Shropshire. In 1314 Nicholas le Chylde was Bailiff of Shrewsbury. The present baronet is descended in a direct line from William Chylde. who settled at Audley, Stafford- shire, temp. i7th century, whose eldest son, Smith Childe, married, 1660, Anne, da. ofR.
