The 2nd baronet became 8th Baron LeDespencer in right of his mother, and was successively head of the War Office, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Postmaster-General. He died without male issue, and the barony fell in abeyance. The 3rd baronet who was half-brother to the 2nd baronet assumed the additional surname of King.
