Residence, The ist baronet was knighted 1702, and sat as M.P. for Winchilsea. The 2nd baronet became 8th Baron LeDespencer in right of his mother, and was successively head of the War Office, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Postmaster-General. He died without male issue, and the barony fell in abeyance. The 3rd baronet who was half-brother to the 2nd baronet assumed the additional surname of King.
