DEINCOURT, Barony (wi-it 1299). — Heirs : The heir of Isabel Deincourt, Hving 1327, but if, as- seeuis most likely, she died without issue, then the heirship devolved upon the holders of the next Barony. DEINCOURT, Barony (writ 1332). — Heirs : The Earl of Abingdon -i ; Baroness Beaumont J ; Hon. Ivy Stap'loton J. DE LA POLE, Barony (writ 1366).— Heirs : Identical with the co-heirs to the Baronies of Morley and [Montoagle (which see). DE LA WARR, Barony (writ 1299).— Heirs : The heir of Mary West m. Sir Adrian Poynings, by whom she had three daughters and co-heirs living in 1567. DE LA WARR, Barony (writ (?) 1572). — There is a ctu:ious decision of the House of Lords in 1611 which placed Lord De La Warr in the position of being possessed of an ancient Barony in Fee. This may possiljly be explained on the supposition that the three co-heirs mentioned next above had died s.p. Otherwise the supposition must be that a Barony in Fee existed dating from 1472. In that case the Barony has devolved upon the present Lord De La Warr. DELVIN, Baron (Irel. 1389). Unquestionably a titular dignity created in the family of Fitzjohn was in existence in the family of Nugent, and devolved upon the Earls of Westmeath until 1752, when it fell into abeyance between co-heirs. Two separate Attorney-Generals of Ireland have reported in favour of the existence of a Parliamentary Barony. — Heirs : The heir | of Mary, Lady Athenry ; Gen. Andrew Nugent, of Portaferry House, eo. Down, i- DESPENCER, Barony (writ 1387). — Sole heir : Lady Wentworth who is apparently de jure Baroness. Despeiicer. DEVEREUX, Barony (writ 1299). — Probably the sole heir is Henry Fitzwalter Plumptre, of Good- ncstone I'ark, whoSis at any rate co-heir to an entire moiety. See also Fitzwalter. DEVON, Earldom. — This is held under the decision of the Committee for Privileges in 1831. There is very little, if any, doubt that the decision would be reversed if the point were brought up a second time. Its effect was reversed in the Wiltes case. If that be so then the subsequent Earls of Devon hold their Earldom by writs and sittings thereunder, i.e. in fee, in which case there is now an Earldom of Devon vested in Viscountess Halifax. A Petition on behalf of Viscount Gage and Sir Robert Bourchier Sherard Wrey, Bart., was referred to the Com- mittee for Privileges of the House of Lords, 16 May, 1912; but on 21 May, 1914, the House declared that no evidence of the existence or descent of the barony had been produced. " DIRLETON, Barony (Scot, circa 1441). — Under attainder subject to which the heir is Alans Stepney-Gulston. of Derwydd, Llandebie, Carmarthenshire. DUDHOPE, Viscounty (Scot.). — Dormant.
