TITLES DORMANT AND TITLES IN ABEYANCE
[GREY

DUFFUS, Barony (Scot. 1650).—The destination of the Peerage is unknown. It was claimed in 1838 by Benjamin Dunbar (by paternal descent Sutherland) as heir male, and by Rev. Eric Rudd as heir of line. The heirs male are now extinct, but a Mr. Sutherland Edwards claims as heir of line. There seems no way of ever deciding the point.

DUNBAR (Scot.).—It is not unlikely that the Marquess of Bute is also Earl of Dunbar (or March) under the re-grant of 1368.

DUNBAR (Scot. 1605).—An Earldom now dormant in the Home family.

DUNBAR.—A Viscounty is now dormant in the Constable family.

DYNAUNT.—See DINHAM.

ESSEX.—An Earldom enjoyed by H.M. the King.

FERRERS, Barony (writ 1299).—Heirs: Charles Vere Townshend Mainwaring-Ellerker-Onslow

Henry Ferrers Ferrers ; Major Charles Archibald Townshend Boultbee !. Petitions have

been presented (1912) by the two first-named, and have been referred (1914) to the House of Lords.

FITZHUGH, Barony (writ 1321).—Heirs: Viscount Hampden; the Marquess of Bute .

FITZ PAYNE, Barony (writ 1299).—Heirs: The heir of Sir John Arundel, of Lanherne (d. 1701); Lord Mowbray and Stourton . FITZ WALTER, Barony (writ 1295).—In all probability the sole heir is the present Henry Fitzwalter Plumptree, of Goodnestone Park, who is therefore probably de jure Lord Fitz Walter. In any event, he is co-heir to an undivided moiety. (See also DEVEREUX.)

FITZWARYN, Barony (writ 1283).—On 21 May, 1914, the House of Lords decided that the barony was in abeyance amongst (a) Viscount Gage; (b) Col. H. Montgomery Campbell; (c) the heir, if any, of Mary Mackworth, and (d) Reginald Joseph Weld.

FITZWILLIAM, Barony (writ 1295).—Vide GREYSTOCK.

FORFAR, Earldom (Scot. 1661)—It is not unlikely that under the terms of remainder this Earldom has devolved upon the Duke of Hamilton.

FRASER, Barony (Scot. 1633).—This title is dormant, but the heir is unknown.

GARDNER, Barony (Irel. 1800 and Utd. Kgdm. 1806).—This title is dormant, there being two claimants.

GIFFARD, Barony (writ 1295).—In abeyance amongst the Lady Furnivall, and the co-heirs of James, Lord Audley (living 1327).

GLENCAIRN, Earldom (Scot.).—The heirship is contested between the heir general, viz., Sir Charles Fergusson, Bart. (undoubtedly the heir under the terms of the patent), and Sir Thomas A. A. Montgomery Cuninghame, Bt., the heir male.

GLOUCESTER, Earldom (1121).—Heir (but for attainder) Lord Stafford.

GORDON, Barony (Scot. (?) 1435).—Undoubtedly still in existence, but a matter of uncertainty whether heritable by the heir male, Sir Bruce Seton, Bt., or the heir general, Sir Alan H. Seton- Steuart, Bt.

GORGES, Barony (writ 1309).—Heirs: (1) the heir or co-heirs of Dame Eleanor Russell, living 1350, (2) Lord Willoughby de Broke.
