John Massey, M.A., was installed 29th Dec. 1686, and quitted it in the year 1688, being a Roman catholic. He fled abroad, and died in 1 7 1 6 at Paris, and was buried in the convent of blue nuns there, of which he was confessor. Benjamin Woodroff was nominated by the King 8th Dec. 1688, but he does not seem to have been installed. Henry Aldrich, S.T.P., was appointed by letters patent 4th April 1689, and installed 17th June 1689. He died J4th Dec. 1710, and was buried on the 22nd of that month in the cathedral, Oxford. Francis Atterbury, S.T.P., dean of Carlisle, was nominated to this deanery 28th Aug. 1711, vice Dr. Henry Aldrich deceased; and in July 1713 he was made bishop of Rochester and dean of Westminster. George Smalridge, S.T.P., dean of Carlisle, was removed to this deanery i ith July 1713; and in April 1 7 14 he was made bishop of Bristol, with leave to hold this deanery in commendam. Ob. 27th Sept. 1719, aetat. 57. Hugh Boulter, S.T.P., was made dean of Christ Church and bishop of Bristol 15th Oct. J 7 19, vice Dr. Smalridge deceased. Dr. Boulter was translated to Armagh in 1723. William Bradshaw, S.T.P., was nominated to the deanery 29th Aug. 1724, and installed 1 7th Sept. 1 724. Ho became bishop of Bristol in 1724, and held this deanery in commendam by dispensation dated 7th Oct. 1724. He died at Bath i6th Dec. 1732, {ttat. 60. John Cone vb fa re, S.T.P., rector of Exeter college, was made dean of Christ Church by patent dated 1 2th Jan. 1732-3. He became bishop of Bristol in 1750, and held this deanery in commendam from 6th Dec. 1750 to his death in July 1755.
