Felger is doing the bird work for the trip. I note the absence of house finches Carpodacus mexicanus and lack of abundance of red wing blackbirds Agelaius phoeniceus. Every where bluebirds (S. arctica) Sialia have been common. Pinon jays Gymnorhinus cyanocephalus are abundant locally. A few magpies magpie occasionally. Went up the basal slope of the bluffs about half way from school house to the canyon west of it ? northwest of school house. A little ways up the slope "float" appeared containing fossils. Followed it up nearly to first distinct sandstone. It comes from calcareous (?see) concretions in the transition beds from the Mancos to the Mesa Verde. I collected two bags full and returned to camp at 12:20. In afternoon Felger and Robbins went with me, and we got two more bags full. The lot includes Baculites ovatus Baculites ovatus, B. compressus? Baculites compressus, Inoceramus barabini Inoceramus barabini, I. sagensis Inoceramus sagensis, and others, Sphaeriola cordata Sphaeriola cordata, Placenticeras sp. Placenticeras, Ostrea sp.
