Note 6.3 Verb: Imperfective.
The Structure Sentences of this unit show some used of the Imperfective form, which is used with reference to present and future action. The Imperfective has a set of prefixes and the suffix /-all-/, with personal endings. It may be illustrated by the following examples:
The verb /məfəlləg/ 'to want, to look for'
Singular | Plural | |||
1st pers. | ıfəllıgalləhu | 'I want' | ın(nı)fəllıgallən | 'we want' |
2nd pers.m. | tıfəllıgalləh | 'you want' | tıfəllıgallaccıhu | 'you want' |
2nd pers.f. | tıfəllıgiyalləš | 'you want'
3rd pers.m. | yıfəllıgal | 'he wants' | yıfəllıgallu | 'they (or: polite you, he, she) want' |
3rd pers.f. | tıfəllıgalləc | 'she wants' |
This verb has the following affixes:
Singular | Plural | |
1st pers. | ı------all-ə-hu | ın(nı)--all-ə-n |
2nd pers.m. | tı------all-ə-h | tı-------all----accıhu |
2nd pers.f. | tı--iy--all-ə-š
3rd pers.m. | yı------al | yı------all----u |
3rd pers.f. | tı------all-əc |
Except for the third person singular masculine suffix (/-al/), these suffixes are identical with the verb /allə/ (see Note 5.1).
The example above shows /iy/ before /-all-/ in the second person feminine singular. If the consonant preceding /-iy-/ (i.e. the last consonant of the stem) is one of the following eight consonants, it (and /-iy-/) are replaced as follows:
/t-iy-/ by /c/, as in /tıkəfcalləš/ 'you (f.) open' (masc. /tıkəftalləh/)
/d-iy-/ by /j/, as in /tıhejalləš/ 'you (f.) go' (masc. /tıhedalləh/)
/T-iy-/ and /S-iy-/ by /C/, as in /tıməCalləš/ 'you (f.) come' (masc. /tıməTalləh/)
/s-iy-/ by /š/, as in /tadəršalləš/ 'you (f.) cause to arrive' (masc. /tadərsalləh/)
/z-iy-/ by /ž/, asin /tıgəžalləš/ 'you (f.) buy' (masc. /tıgəzalləh/)
