51. Sōðlīce ic secge ēow, Gif hwā mīne sprǣce gehealt, ne gesyhþ hē dēað nǣfre.[1]

52. Ðā cwǣdon þā Iudeas, Nū wē witon þæt þū eart wōd. Abraham wæs dēad, and þā witegan; and þū cwyst, Gif hwā mīne sprǣce gehealt, ne bið hē nǣfre dēad.

53. Cwyst þū þæt þū sȳ mǣrra þonne ūre fæder Abraham, sē wæs dēad? and þā wītegan wǣron dēade; hwæt þincð þē þæt þū sȳ?[2]

54. Sē Hǣlend him andswarode, Gif ic wuldrige mē sylfne, nis mīn wuldor nāht; mīn Fæder is þe mē wuldrað, be þæm gē cweðaþ; þæt hē sȳ ūre God.

55. And gē ne cūðon hine. Ic hyne cann; and gif ic secge þæt ic hine ne cunne, ic bēo lēasē and ēow gelīc; ac ic hyne cann, and ic healde his sprǣce.[3]

56. Abraham ēower fæder geblissode þæt hē gesāwe mīnne dæg; and hē geseah, and geblissode.[4]

57. Ðā Iudeas cwǣdon tō him, Gȳt þū ne eart fīftigwintre, and gesāwe þū Abraham?

58. Sē Hǣlend cwæþ tō him, Ic wæs ǣr þām þe Abraham wæs.[5][6]
