Baldwin, Foy Spencer, educator, author, was born July 6, 1870, in Charlotte, Mich. Since 1895 he has been professor of economics at Boston university. He is the author of History of Mining Legislation in England.

Michigan horse guards as second lieutenant and became captain of the nineteenth regiment Michigan infantry. In 1866 he entered the regular array as first lieutenant; he became and lieutenant-colonel in
captain in 1879; 1899. In 1901 he was promoted to colonel of the twenty-seventh regiment; and attained the rank of brigadier-general in 1902. In. 1864 he received a medal of honor for distinguished bravery in the battle of Peachtree Creek, Ga. and received a medal of honor in 1874 for distinguished gallantry in action against the Indians in Texas. In the Philippines he commanded the first body of civilized troops on the island of Mindanao, where in the battle of Bylan the Moros lost over three hundred men. He is now in charge of the department of Colorado, with headquarters at Denver. Baldwin, Frederick Amos, pathologist, scientist, was born May 14, 1877, in Kalamazoo, Mich. Since 1904 he has been assistant eity bacteriologist and pathologist of St. Louis, Mo. He has made valuable researches in pathology. Baldwin, Frederick W., lawyer, statesman, author, was born Sept. 39, 1848, in Lowell, Vt. He attended the grammar school of Westfield; and studied in the Methodist conference seminary of Montpelier, Vt. In 1874-78 he was secretary of the Vermont state senate; and in 1880 was states attorney for Orleans county, Vt. In 1884-96 he was a member of the state committee; was its secretary and treasurer for two years and chairman for four years; and in 1892 was a presidential elector. In 1896 he was a representative to the ^^ermont state legislature; and in 1900 was a member of the state senate. Since 1896 he has been a trustee of
the incorporated village of Barton, Vt.; and is vice-president of the Barton savings bank. Baldwin, George Colfax, clergyman, author, was born Oct. 31, 1817, in Pompton, N.J. For many years he was pastor of the First baptist church of Troy, N.Y. H& was author of Representative Women of the Bible; Representative Men of the New Testament; and The Model Prayer. He died Nov. 39, 1899, in
Troy, N.Y. Baldwin, George Rumford, civil engineer, designer, builder, was born Jan. 36, 1798, in North Woburn, Mass. He designed and built the Boston marine railroad. He died Oct. 12, 1888, in North Woburn, Mass.
Baldwin, George Thompson, merchant, banker, jurist, was born Jan. 31, 1856, in St. Louis, Mo. He received his education in the public schools of St. Louis, Mo. and in 1872 moved to Oregon. Since 1875 he has been a
successful hardware merchant of Klamath and a general dealer in vehicles and machinery. He has been vice-president of the First national bank of Klamath Falls; secretary of the Klamath light and water company; and identified .with other business enterprises. He has been county treasurer; and is now county judge of Klamath county, Falls, Ore.;

Baldwin, Henry, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Jan. 14, 1780, in New Haven, Conn. He settled at Pittsburg, Pa. In 181723 he was a representative from Pennsylvania to the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth congresses as a federalist. In 1830-44 he was associate judge of the supreme court of the United States. He died April 21, 1844, in Philadelphia, Pa. Baldwin, Henry, soldier, historian, was born Feb. 1, 1832, in New York City. In 1861 he was sergeant in command of the corps of engineers in the twelfth regiment New York state troops; and after four months' service organized the corps of instruction, from which several graduated as officers in the volunteer service in the civil war. He became custodian of American history at New Haven, Conn. He died in 1905 in New Haven. Conn. Baldwin, Henry Porter, banker, governor. United States senator, was born Feb. 32, 1814, in Coventry, R.I. In 1838 he moved to Detroit, Mich.; became president of the Second national bank of Detroit; and was for two years a state senator. In 1869-73 he was governor of Michigan for two terms. In 1879-81 he was United States senator from Michigan to fill a vacancy. He died Dec. 31, 1892, in Detroit, Mich. Baldwin, Homer Hine, soldier, was born in Ohio. In 1861 he was second lieutenant in the fifth artillery; and in 1863 was brevetted first lieutenant for gallant and meritorious sei-vices at the battle of Gettysburg. In 1864 he was also brevetted captain for gallant and meritorious services in the Red river campaign. He died June 11, 1870.
