He died Feb. 8, 1846, in Rochester, N.Y. Baldwin, Augustus C, lawyer, congressman, was born Dec. 24, 1817, in Salina, N.Y. In 1844-48 he was a member of the state legislature of Michigan; in 1853-54 was prosecuting attorney for his adopted county; and was a delegate to the Charleston and Baltimore conventions of 1860. In 1863-65 he was a representative from Michigan to the thirty-eighth congress. He died about 1875 in Pontiac, Mich. Baldwin, Caleb, lawyer, jurist, was born April 3, 1834, in Washington county. Pa. In 1859-62 he was an associate justice of the supreme court of Iowa; and in 1862 was chief justice. In 1874 he was United States district attorney for Iowa. He was one of ten judges of the court of commissioners of

Council Bluffs, Iowa. Baldwin, Charles H., naval of&cer, was born Sept. 3, 1822, in New York City. He entered the navy in 1839; in the war with Mexico he served on the frigate Congress; and in 1861 commanded the steamer Clifton. In 1883 he was raised to the rank of rear admiral, and assigned to the command of the
Mediterranean squadron; and was retired in 1886. He attended officially the coronation of the emperor of Russia. He died Nov. 17, 1888, in
New York
City.
Baldwin, Charles Pierce, soldier, was bom in Maine. In 1862 he was captain in the eleventh regiment Maine volunteer infantry; and in 1865 was brevetted brigadier-general of volunteers.
Baldwin, Charles Sears, educator, author, 21, 1867, in New York City. assistant professor of rhetoric at Yale university. He is the author of The Inflections and Specimens of Prose Description; and The Expository Paragraph and Sentence. Baldwin, Christopher Columbus, capitalist, philanthropist, was bom about 1830 in Waterbury, Md. In 1880 he became president of the Nashville railroad company. He endowed the episcopal church of Anne Arundel county with a fund of eleven thousand dollars and presented a tower, steeple and chime to the church of Hagerstown, Md. Baldwin, Dwight Major, soldier, business president, was bom Aug. 26, 1836, in Woodbridge, Conn. He graduated from the Connecticut literary institution of Suffolk. In 1862 he became identified with the real estate and insurance business of Red Wing, Minn.; and was president of several large business corporations. In 1862-63 he was commissioned captain of company tenth regiment Minnesota state militia; and served with distinction in the civil war. His son, Dwight M. Baldwin, is proprietor of the Dwight flour mills of Minneapolis, Minn.
