Bierer, Everard, soldier, lawyer, legislator, was born Jan. 9, 1827, in Uniontown, Pa. For three years he was district attorney of his county. He served as a union soldier dur-

ing the civil war; was captain of company F, eleventh regiment of Pennsylvania volunteer reserve corps in 1861-62; was colonel of the one hundred

and seventy-first regiment of Pennsylvania volunteers in 1862-63; and was in the reserve corps as captain until 1864. He was a Lincoln presidential elector in 1864; and in 1867-68 was a representative from Brown county to the Kansas state legislature.

able speaker; and took an active part in all progressive measures. He is a successful lawyer of AUentown, Pa.; and one of the foremost jurists of his state. In 1880 he wrote an extended resume of the history of Tariff Legislation of his country from 1789 down. In 1894 he published a satire on the Cleveland administration entitled King Grover; and he is also the author of treatises on political-economic questions. Bigby, John Summerfield, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was bom Feb. 13, 1832, in Coweta county, Ga. He was a member of the Georgia state constitutional convention of 1867-68. He was solicitor-general of the Tallapoosa circuit in 1868; and was judge of its superior court until 1871; and representative from Georgia to the forty-second congress as a republican. Bigelow, Abijah, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Dec. 5, 1775, in Westminster, Mass. He was a member of the general court of Massachusetts. In 1809-15 he was a representative from Massachusetts to the eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth congresses. In 1838 he was appointed a master in chancery for Worcester county; and held the office of justice of the peace for about fifty years. He died April 4, 1860, in Massachusetts.
