Bigelow, Erastus Brigham, manufacturer, was born April 3, 1814, in West Boylston, Mass. He was a noted New England inventor of carpet looms; and was one of the original incorporators of the Massachusetts institute of technology. He was the author of The Tariff Question considered in regard to the Policy of England and the Interest of the United States and The Tariff Policy of England and the United States Contrasted. He died Dee. 6, 1879, in Boston, Mass.
Bigelow, Frank Barna, litterateur, librarwas born Feb. 7, 1869 in Amherst, Mass. He received a thorough education; and in 1891 graduated from Amherst college with the degree of A.B. In 1892-96 he was assistant librarian of Columbia university; and since 1895 has been librarian of the New York society library. In 1850-60 he was an associate justice of the supreme court of Massachusetts; and in 1860-68 he was chief justice. He died in 1878 in Massachusetts. Bigelow, Henry Jacob, physician, surgeon, was born March 11, 1818, in Boston, Mass. He was professor of surgery in the medical school of Harvard university in 1849-84.
