H e was the son o f William and M ary C^nlap Magill. H e came to Dan­ v ille in 18 18 and b ^ n the practice o f med* icinc, his fam ily having m o v ^ to Danville in 18 J4 . H is mother built the house on Market street known ever since as the “ M agill Home­ stead.” On M ay 1, 1828, he married M ary, slaughter o f Gen. Daniel Montgomery. DV. M aH Il played a large part in the earlier life o f Iranville. He had a large practice and had the happy faculty o f bringing brightness and cheer into the sickroom, while his sterling in­ tegrity and open-hcartcdncss won fo r him the confidence and respect o f all the families to whom he m in ister^. The family physician, in the early days even more than now* stood very near the life and center of the home. His skill, his sympathy, his untiring attention, had much to do w*itb family growth and family <lcvclopment. All these qualities D r. Magill J possessed in a high degree* and many in Dan­ ville an<l a large surrounding countr>* district felt it a personal loss when he gave up his practice at an advanced age. D r. Magill w as much interested in the growth and prosperity of the county, l i e was the first burgess of the borough o f Danville. H e w as firm and loyal during the Civil war. H e w as alw ays regarded as one of the leading citizens of the county. D r. M agill and his w ife were earnest Chris­ tians, both members of the Mahoning Presby­ terian Church. Mrs. M agill uniting with t^ic vamc in 1822 and the Doctor in 1833. Mrs. M agill died in S2: the Doctor in 1889. agetl ninety-three. He was the son o f Gilbert Voris, who was bom in New ersey in 1757. H is mother* Jan e (M cClanaan j *oris, was bom in Ireland. Gilbert V oris and his w ife Jan e early came to Mon­ tour county* where they spent the remainder of their lives, he dying in 1797* she in i8t6. Jam es N'oris married Anna Gray, who was a native o f Ireland. lie was a carpenter and contractor* residing in Liberty township until 1837, when he removed to DanviUe* and was a substantial citizen of the count)*. Here his large family was bom and reared. Jam es Vori.s died in A pril, i86(>. For long years he transactc<l business in Danville and by industry and thrift and care accumulated a large fortune.
