M r. Vincent then aban­ doned the practice o f law and became inter­ ested in (he manufacture o f stoves, and when the Danville Stove and Manufacturing Com­ pany W'as organized he was made president. F. C . AKct-E w as born Feb. 25, 1854, son W illiam and Henrietta (P u rsel) Angle. Mr. A ngle, after completing a'course in the com­ mon schools o f Danville, attended Lehigh Uni­ versity. from w hkh he graduated in the class o f 1876. He studied law with Thom as J . G al­ braith and w as admitted to Ihe bar o f Slontour county in 1879, after which he formed a part­ nership with Jam es Scarlet, under the firm name o f Scarlet and Angle. A fte r the disso­ lution o f this firm Mr. .Angle 1>cgan to give his attention to other business matters and subse­ quently became the owner and m a n n e r of the A/ontour AtnrriccH. I^ te r he established a daily paper in the borough o f Danville, called the M orning N a v s, which has had a rapid grow th and a laige circulation. M r. Angle married M iss Sue Robison. T h ey are the parents o f two sons, Theodore and Frank Pursel. M r. Angle no longer practices law, but is kept busy with his other enterprises. r4>WARD S a y r £ G & a r m a r t, son of M ayberry and M ary Catherine Gearhart, w as bom at R oaring Crcck, March 28, 1856. H e re­ mained on the farm o f his father, working and attending the neighboring schools, until h e w as fourteen years o f age, when he moved to Danville and entered the machine shop of the National Iron Company as an apprentice. A ft e r scrv'ing his apprenticeship and master­ ing his trade, in the fall o f 1875 he entered W yom ing Seminary, at Kingston. P a., and graduated the following year, in 1876 Mr. G earhart entered Princeton College and grad­ uated in the class o f )88o. During the last years o f his college course he read law with

In 1881 he w'as admitted to the bar o f Montour county. Mr. Gearhart’s practice has hccn characterized by careful study, thorough research and n>ost latiorious application. H e has a wide and prof­ itable clientage. M r Gearhart, in the year 18S6, married Ella R . Creveling. daughter o f A lfred Creveling, president of the Glendower Iron Works. They are the parents o f four daughters, Kath­ erine (w ife o f (ieorgc Youngm an), Helen, Marion and Evelyn. West, i l c obtained his education in the public schools o f Danville and at the Bloomsburg State Normal School, after which of he assisted his father in sutA'cying for some time, devoting his attention also to study and the advancement o f his education. H e read law with G rier and Hinckley and was admitted to practice in 1886. In 1887 M r. W est was elected district attor­ ney for Montour county and in 19 14 was elected a member of the (Jencral Assembly of Pennsylvania. In 1891 M r. W est married Ella Patterson, daughter of John C. Patterson. They are the parents o f three children. John Patterson, M ary Ivouisc and William K. R. S . A m v i k r u a n, a son o f William H. Ammerman, was born in Danville Aug. 5, 1869. M r. Ammerman graduated from the Danville high school in 1 S 6 and from the law school of the U niversity o f Pennsylvania in 1891. H e was admitted to the bar o f Montour countv in 1890 and to the Supreme court of Pennsyl­ vania in 1893. and to the Circuit and District courts of the United States Ju n e 20. 1905. M r. Ammerman held (he position o f dis­ trict attorney in the county from 1894 to 1900. He w as borough solicitor for Danville from 1891 to 1895 and again from to 1900. Ilc is a Democrat, and has taken considerable interest in Democratic politics, being elected several times as a delegate to the Democratic Stale conventions. He was on the Democratic ticket for presidential elector in 190 0; and was a delegate to the DcnKKratic National conven­ tion at St. Ix>uis tn 1904. He was elected to the General Assembly in the years mj02. 1904, h)o6 and ujo8. In 1905 he w as the Demo­ cratic caucus nominee for speaker of the House of Representatives.
