John Vastinc, son o f Jonathan and E liza­ beth (L e w is) Vastinc, inherited a part o f hts father's farm and in 18 33 buih what to his descendants is known as the "Stone H ouse" — now owned by Gessic P. Savidgc— where he lived. He married Catherine Osmun. T o them were bom four sons and three daugh­ ters: Elizabeth (died at the age o f seven­ teen), W illiam, Amos, M argaret. Sarah .Ann, T h on u s Princan d John (w ho graduated from Jefferson Medical College, and died shortly afterw ard, in his twenty-second ye ar). William Vastine, son o f John and Catherine (O sm un) Vastinc. on Jan. 24, 1833, married Elizabeth, daughter o f John and Salome (R e e d ) Hursh. When he was twenty-one years old they settled on a farm, then owned by his father-in-law, later descending to his wife. In 1843. in line with the custom of his forefathers, he built himself a house. It is now the property o f his granddaughters. Katherine M . and Ellen E .. daughters o f Si­ mon and Elizabeth ( F a u x ) Vastine. H e was a large landowner, cultivating between 450 and 500 acres. In religious faith he was a member of the Lutheran Church. Politically he was a W hig. H e died in 1839. T o Mr. and M rs. Vastine were bom six sons and two daughters: Amos. Jaco b Ilu rsh, Ilugli Hursh. Simon, Ezra, Elizabeth Ann, Daniel and E lk n, the two last named dying before reaching the age o f twelve. Each received an eilucation beyond the common schools. •Amos Vastine, eldest son o f W illiam and Elizabeth (H u rsh ) V'astine, is mentioned be­ low with the account o f his son WilUam. Jacob Ilu rsh Vastinc. second son o f Wil­ liam and Elizabeth (H u rsh ) Vastinc. grad­ uated from Jefferson Medical College in 1858. Jn i86t he marricil Sarah, daughter o f George Hughes.
