One man in front has dis- mounted to converse with a young woman in yellow who nurses her child. In the middle distance two troopers, a woman, and a soldier with a gun, preceded by a pack-mule, cross a stream. Farther back, peasants surround an officer who is drinking at a sutler's tent. Mieville, London, April 29, 1899, No. 92 (^399). 836. A CAMP (or, A Horse Fair). Sm. Suppl. 74. To the left, in front of tents, is a man in blue on a piebald horse facing right. To the left, beside him, another man on a greyish-brown spotted horse faces the spectator j two bay horses stand in shadow farther left. In the centre foreground is a soldier in a yellow coat with a red scarf, with his back to the spectator ; to the right is a little boy holding a red cloak, with a dog. Behind him, a dark bay horse is led past ; a man standing on the right looks at it. In the right middle distance a cavalier on a grey horse rides past a lady and gentleman into the left background, where the camp is pitched. Misty distance. "An excellent example" (Sm.).
