Behind it to the right a peasant lies on a hill, near a rush fence and a leafless willow. Beside him are a dark cow lying down, and a dark brown horse standing in a foreshadowed view. In the middle distance are a grey spotted goat grazing, and some lambs. In the left distance, amid trees, is a large mansion. In the distance is a range of hills. A road traverses flat country on the right and winds away over high ground. Along the road comes a herdsman, driving before him four cows, two sheep, and a goat. Farther away are two travellers ; one rides a bay horse and the other leads a grey horse. Over the brow of the hill is a traveller. A distant village. A fine evening.
