His right hand rests on a hound. His long hair falls on his shoulders. His costume is of orange silk. Signed, and dated 1670 ; canvas, 20 inches by 16 inches. Sale. Three-quarter length ; turned half right and looking at the spectator. He is in full armour, with a large fair wig and a lace collar. He rests his left hand on his helmet, which lies with his ermine cloak on a table ; in his right hand is his baton. At the back to the left is a curtain, while to the right is a view of a landscape in evening light. Canvas, i8| inches by 15^ inches. In one of the Royal Palaces. In the Kaiser Friedrich Museum, Berlin, 1906 catalogue, No. 1024 ; it was in the Berlin Museum, 1842 (Sm.). Luxemburg, Duke of. [See 307.] 231. THE DUCHESSE DE MAINE (?). Full length. A lady of rank with a high lace cap stands in the corner of a terrace ; she is turned to the right, but has her face towards the spectator. Her right hand is on the border of her red velvet gown ; her left hand rests on the balustrade, holding the stem of a flower in a basket of flowers and fruit. In the back- ground are more fruit and flowers. To the right of the lady is a parrot.
