She rests her left hand on a skull placed near a crucifix on a table at her side. In the distance at one side is a convent. Delicately finished and vigorously painted. Canvas, 16 inches by 12 inches. According to the catalogue, it repre- sented Princess Anna (1709-1759), wife of William IV. But as E. H. van der Neer died in 1703, that Princess cannot have sat to him.
